IFAKO LOCAL GOVERNMENT INTENSIFIES EFFORT ON DRAINAGE CLEARING IN VARIOUS AREA IN THE COMMUNITY
– Council Mayor expresses determination to ensure a flood-free Ifako Ijaiye
Ifako Ijaiye Local Government has embarked on aggressive clearing of drainages from Pen-Cinema junction to College Road and in the Mokuolu Street at Ogba area to control flooding.
Operatives from the Environmental Health Service Department of Ifako Ijaiye Local Government were at work on Saturday 13th April 2024 in continuation of the drainage clearing and desilting exercise along Pen-Cinema to College Road and Mokuolu Street, Ogba, Ifako Ijaiye.
The Executive Chairman of Ifako Ijaiye LGA, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat (UAH), fcpa said in preparation for the rains, the government is paying desired attention to the clearing of drainage channels in the local government.
He explained that the drainage clearing and carting away of the waste became necessary to clear and dredg the drainage channels and water channels to allow easy passage of rainstorm water, while he warned residents from dumping refuse or waste products into the drainage to desist, as it curbs flooding issues.
Chairman Hamzat gave assurance to the residents that with the continuous clearing of major drainages, manholes and canals when the rains commence, it will flow into its natural channels.
He also implored all those who have constructed one form of contraption or the other on drainage alignments and setbacks to remove them immediately or have them removed.
He, therefore, called for a change of heart from the people, warning that the continued dumping of refuse in the canals and drains would come back to haunt them if they did not desist.
Please let us cultivate the habit of disposing of our wastes properly rather than dumping them in the drainages.
